I love what has happened to this wonderful Old Light station since I was there in 1997. I wish I lived closer so I could get there more than I do but I want to thank all of the folks that love this station and give of themselves and their time to it.

I HAVE BEEN VISITING CRISP POINT LIGHT ALMOST EVERY YEAR SINCE I WAS ONE YEAR OLD, FIRST WITH MY PARENTS AND THEN ON MY OWN AND AM VERY PLEASED TO SEE WHAT EVERYONE HAS DONE TO BRING THE LIGHT BACK TO LIFE. THANK YOU J.C.CORNWELL

My wife Yvonne and I have been to almost every lighthouse in Wisconsin, Upper and Lower Michigan.
Crisp Point is my favorite of them all. We have been there several times over the past ten years.
The last time we were there was 1997. I was heart broken to find the attached building crumbled into the lake! I thought that would be the last time I would see the tower standing. I finally found your web page and am thrilled to see the light painted and
the shore line reclaimed. I am glad to know that there are people that find this location and light as special as I do. Granted I will miss the off-roading adventure to get there! I hope to visit again in 2001. Keep up the fantastic work.

I am originally from Michigan and spent a lot of time as a child vacationing and exploring around the Great Lakes. I have developed a real passion for the Lakes, Islands, Shoreline and Lighthouses over the years and try to return every year as an adult with my son to find new things and places to explore. I hope to make the trip to Crisp Point this summer (2000) to see the wonderful progress that has been made in its restoration. GREAT JOB!!!

MOST EXCELLENT WEB SITE!

Dear Don and Nellie-
We see Margaret Warren often and she has kept us posted on what has been going on with the lighthouse. The tower looks wonderful and we're glad to hear the road is in good shape. We tried so hard to make it back up there before the weather broke and were unsuccessful. We will see you in the spring or summer on our next trip up. Both of us are looking forward to doing what we can to help, and our son is anxious to have another opportunity to help. Keep up the good work, and have a wonderful holiday. Kim

We visited the lighthouse in July 99. But the black flies were so bad we couldn't stay long. It's so beautiful after it has been painted! We really like your web page.
Comments:
I started out looking for backgrounds for a web page and ended up here!! I love this light. I visited this beautiful lady just after she began falling. I've visited many lighthouses, but this is my favorite. I'm glad to see that so many are interested in saving her, but I am almost sorry that we have to share her. When you visit her in her remoteness, you feel that no one else knows about her. There was peace and tranquility, just you and the light..I have beautiful pic's , but I love yours too. I will be back to visit soon.

My husband & I brought our daughter and her husband out to see the newly painted lighthouse last weekend. We were so shocked at the erosion! It has been over 2 years since our last visit to Crisp Point Light and the changes were amazing!
Couldn't believe the new road, either! Although it is nice to have better access to the Light, my husband commented that somehow the ambiance had changed. I understood what he meant. But, the only way to raise public interest in the Light is to provide access.
We came back home and revisited your website, looking for ways to support the efforts at saving the Light. My daughter & her husband are avid lighthouse replica collectors and we noticed that there were no replicas to be found. I might suggest that you contact Scasis (sp?), the vendor that does many, many other lighthouse replications, and suggest that they do a mold for Crisp Point! I wouldn't offer to pay them to make the mold right off...let them invest in Crisp!
I think you would do very well to sell replicas of this most precious lighthouse. Let the light speak for itself! My first home was Au Sable Light near Grand Marais. Once you have a fascination for lighthouses, it just never goes away! In Spirit...let the
light shine!
Comments:
I have been interested in lighthouses for about 10 years now. My husband proposed at Grand Haven,
which I treasure dearly. In the last few years my
interest has grown and we have traveled within MI
to view as many as possible. I regret we have not
seen CP yet, but would love to in 2000, and would
also like to help in some way. I will be in touch.
Thank you so much for this site and for keeping the spirit of the light alive, and hopefully soon,
the actual "light on."
Happy Thanksgiving!

I would love to see your lighthouse! I really enjoy The Great Lakes, especially Superior. Hopefully I will make it up there next summer. The drive to the site looks a bit tricky though. But worth the effort I'm sure. Great website. Thanks, Norma.

Finally found the web-site!!! All I can say is Thanks bud, you picked a winner! Can't wait till we can go there together. Once again THANKS! Brian

Very impressed witth how extensive your web site is. Have always been fasinated by Crisp Point Light and have known about it for many years. I can remember when it was still an active lighthouse. My wife and I have been wanting to visit Crisp point for some time now. Would have to liked to have gotten there before it became so well known and was still more desolate and hard to get to. We
are both a couple of dyed in the wool yoopers and truly love and care for this land and it's rich history and heritage. We will most likely join your organization and volunteer our labor to help save Crisp Point light. Although we are not well to do people, we would like to do what we can to help.

Really glad to see so much interest in the Lighthouses of the Great Lakes and especially in Crisp Point. I am now attending school in Vermont so I have had plenty of time to explore the beautiful lights on the East Coast. And they really are beautiful.
Keep up the good work. I am sure you have heard of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Museum which will be going up just south of the bridge. I will be looking for something in there about Crisp. Keep me updated on the progress of the light. Take Care and Happy Holidays to all.

their donation of Ornamental Beach grasses. Have changed my address so might be why we haven't gotten a reply. Still interested to know. Thanks

I grew up not far from Grand Haven, and just took lighthouses for granted!... thought everyone lived near one!! Anyway, I've been collecting lighthouse "stuff" since 1969 and the last couple years have spent our vacation time hauling the family around the state to different lighthouses! Am glad you have driving directions, my son attends college at the Soo, think I'll give him the directions and my camera and send him over there! Hopefully, I'll be able to visit myself next summer! Wonderfully done page!

My father (Bob Davis) was originally from Eckerman, Mi. We have a cabin in Strongs. We like the Paradise area and saw on a map that there was a lighthouse called Crisp Point. So with alot of determination and a 4 wheel drive truck we found Crisp Point several years ago. We have been back several times since. I applaud your efforts to save a piece of our history. I have a question though, why did the Coast Guard tear the house down? What a shame!

I really love all the Lighthouses, especially those
that need help to get repaired. They all are really beautiful and I am so glad to see them.

I first visited the Crisp Point Light House in Feb of 99 on snowmobile. It was very beautiful, and I am finally going back this weekend to drive my wife there. We have seen just about all of the lighthouses in the states and are ready to take on the Canadian side.

I was born at Au Sable Light in Grand Marais in 1954 to Richard & Carol Miller. Dad was the lightkeeper then and I have kept that beautiful lighthouse in my Life over all of these years!
My husband and I returned to Grand Marais in 1979 to raise our daughters (ages 3 & 4) in one of the most beautiful areas on Earth! We have often frequented Crisp Point, Point Iroquois & Whitefish Point Lights. I love your website!

The quilt donated is beautiful. Written appreciation should be made to the donor / creator of the quilt. I was born in the U.P. (Newberry) and can appreciate the Great Lakes and their lighthouses enormously.

Thanks to your quiltmaker, Donnely Lockard, this applique quilter found your site. Good luck with your project in restoring this lighthouse. I, too, love lighthouses...all of them. My personal favorite is Thomas Point Shoal in the Chesapeake Bay...sail by it regularly. Visited Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and saw it MOVE. An awesome sight! Your endeavors to restore Crisp Point are evidenced with your hard work and good website. Good luck with the quilt raffle. It is a lovely quilt!

My wife and I visited Crisp Point on Aug. 9 of this year. What a view of the Lake!!! We just love visiting along Lake Superior it really is God's Country. The 17 mile drive to the light is an experience all by itself!! Keep up the good work and we hope the light is there for many years to come. We heard the tower has been painted since our visit, so we look forward to seeing it again real soon!!

Well we got back late last night. Tom & I went up after I finished a wedding (I'm a florist). We put in about 7-8 hours helping scrape the old paint & caulk off the window frames on the top of the tower. There were several volunteers. We got alot accomplished scraping inside & out the windows, walls, removed the rest of the galvanized ceiling panels (All of this work was done in the very top of the tower). It was alot of work but we had a great time working together and boy what a view!!!!!!!!!!!! We had beautiful weather till we left Sunday afternoon, it started to rain as we left. Many of the volunteers camped in the clearing behind the lighthouse. We had over 20 visitors climb the tower while we worked. This week I plan on approaching 2 of my wholesale greenhouse contacts about getting appropriate plants donated. I'll give it my best shot. Also
I don't see anywhere on this site that tells about the Volunteer Lightkeeper for a weekend program.
If I understand this correctly, any member can camp at the lighthouse & open it up for the public to climb the tower & answer questions and/or put in some elbow grease (work on repairs). Tom & I go up at least once a month as we have property about 30 minutes away. We all decided that we need to use a gas powered generator to do the rest of the scraping. This way we can plug power drills with
wire brushes in and get things accomplished much more quickly & efficiently. Bill, who was the novice volunteer has one but he can't always be there like ourselves. If anyone would like to help us out volunteering & has a generator that we can use that would be great. Contact Nellie & Don or myself and we will get back to you. Signing off for now.
D.J. & Tom
P.S. A suggestion for everyone. Find the Luce County website and send a thank you to the Road Commission for the great job extending the road to within a few hundred feet of the Lighthouse!!! What a great job!!!!!!!!!!!

What a beautiful site, I tried to find this light a few years ago, but didn't make it, as it started to rain and was getting dark. It is a beauty, and I'm grateful for your efforts to save it. Your site is great and I will explore it more when I have more time, Thank you.

I used to vacation at a nearby lake, with grandparents, as a child. We would visit the lighthouse quite often. At one point my parents took a picture that I had taken of her (the lighthouse) and had it painted for me. It hangs in my home today. I had read an article that part had been reclaimed by the lake, but it wasn't until my sister gave me a picture that she recently took, that I fully realized the problems that she was facing. It is very upsetting. I'm glad that someone is trying to help her.

I worked in the navigation dept. on a U S Navy ship and it started my interest in lighthouses. I am now collecting Lefton lighthouses and that started me looking for info and/or history on my collection and other lighthouses in the US. Have visited several lighthouses on the Gulf and East coast but have not been in the Great Lakes Region. The "lakes area" has some beautiful lighthouses that fits within my interest, so I hope to get up that way soon.

My goal by Summer of 2000 is to have collected all the lighthouses around the state of MI. This weekend my goal is all of the houses bordering Lake Superior. Wish Me LUCK!!!

I have been trying to visit the lighthouse for about 6 years. However, I travel alone with my young daughter, and it's just in too remote of a location to risk it. Last summer I became familiar with the society (again, purely by accident) and I plan to visit this summer. Can't wait!!!!!

Had the greatest time at the Lighthouse. Delivered the quilt to Don and Nellie, wonderful people. They are taking photo's of the quilt. Hope lots and lots of money will be raised from the quilt raffle. It was worth the time to make it, just to have the key being able to climb to the top. Loved it. I had only seen it from pictures, read an article about the lighthouse, called and asked if they would be interested in a quilt to raffle.
Hope to return soon. Fell in love with the place. My great uncle was a lightkeeper for South Fox Island.

If you're coming from Ann Arbor, take U.S. 23 North, then I-75 North, and finally M-123 North to Paradise. If you're coming from Traverse City, take U.S. 31 North to I-75 North, to M-123 North. Good luck!

I wish I could claim some relationship to the Light. Unfortunately Christopher Crisp is not of our lineage. The Crisp Family of Raber Twp. Chippewa County will have our Family Reunion July 3 at Raber Twp. Hall. I am taking info and pictures of the light and will wear my CPLHS shirt.

Hello,
I am the great granddaughter of Joseph Singleton, Keeper of Crisp Point. My mother was raised by her grandparents and spent her summers at Crisp Point with them and her 3 uncles.
This lovely lady of the lakes has been a big part of my childhood ... vacations in the summertime with memories so aromatic and vivid, that I cry at the sight of her today ... I will be visiting the tower with my husband and son ... their first time ...
want to continue to expose the generations of the Singleton/Warren family to her magic, for as long as she stands ... As a kid/teenager, I would sit on her shore for hours, listening and thinking - there is no better "therapy" for the mind. I will be bringing my family July 15 through July 18. We will be staying at our family's cabin, compliments of my cousin, near Bodi. Thank you for doing such a nice job on this site ... and allowing me to share my thoughts.

It is great to see a web page devoted to this lighthouse in danger. I saw the lighthouse for the first time in early Dec. '98 before the snow flew, and visited it again a couple of weeks ago. The potential for a wonderful visitors site is there, but only

My wife and I visited Muskalonge State Park in summer of '97. We visited several lighthouses, but not Crisp Point. We attended '97 and '98 Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival. We feel that this festival should be promoted more throughout. Several lighthouses along Lake Huron didn't even know about the event. We too are greatly disturbed by the fate of the Crisp Light. We met Dee Smith and found her warm and charming and hope to visit the light this year with her assistance. Good Luck!
